WHY I'M RUNNING
"As a Navy veteran, I once again answer the call to serve my community with honesty and integrity.
From Hilton Head to Daufuskie, Bluffton to Sun City, and Palmetto Bluff to Okatie, the people of district 46 are my top priority."
I STAND READY TO SERVE
Abortion Rights
As your state senator, I will fight tirelessly for women’s freedoms.
Last year, my opponent Sen. Tom Davis and South Carolina’s extremist Republican legislators passed one of the most restrictive abortion bans in the nation.
After assuring furious constituents that he would not support such extreme legislation, Davis cast the deciding vote, pushing the six-week abortion ban into law.
Make no mistake, Sen. Tom Davis does not support women’s bodily autonomy, writing in the Washington Post: “At some point in time, the right of the state to see the unborn child born does take precedent over the woman's right to her body.”
Senator Tom Davis
Washington Post, 5/23/23
Women deserve better, and I intend to stand up and fight for equality every day I serve the people of South Carolina.
Education
I support public education.
As your state senator, I will work to repeal the school voucher program which funnels public taxpayer dollars to private schools. Public funds should be used to improve public schools.
The state must increase support for both teachers and students. This support must include mental health resources for students, increased pay, staffing, and resources for teachers, and protection of our newly established free lunch program.
Additionally, I support expanding pre-K and early childhood education programs throughout the state. These programs ensure that students have the best chance of success and assist families with child care expenses.
Common Sense Gun Safety Reforms
Our children deserve safe communities. Communities are made less safe when we elect Republicans who pass extreme, wild-west gun laws in South Carolina.
We have now reached a tragic milestone. Gun violence is the number ONE cause of death among children in the United States. Police groups and responsible gun owners overwhelmingly agree that common sense gun safety laws are needed.
As a gun owner and trained markswoman with the United States Navy, I understand weaponry. We were trained to safely utilize, clean, and store our guns. We understood they had the power to kill, and as such must be handled with great care at all times.
I will work to overturn the Constitutional Carry Law that allows everyone 18 and over to openly carry a weapon without training or permit, and I will not rest until the Charleston loophole is closed.
Climate Change Mitigation
Beaufort County is predicted to be the #1 county to be affected by climate change in the United States. It is anticipated that the coastal sea level rise will increase by 1 foot by 2050. These changes will drastically impact our coastline, ecosystem and economy in coming decades.
We can’t afford to wait. As your state senator, I will call upon the legislature to establish forward-thinking, pro-active plans to protect our coastlines, marine ecosystems, and infrastructure.
Additionally, I will work to protect South Carolinians from the negative economic impacts of extreme weather and rising seas.
